It's like 'The Lord of the Rings' in reverse - Irish Times
Google News - Ireland [search] &bull Yesterday
GETTING IT together in the country is a rock'n'roll dream that has become a moss-covered cliche. Since the ancient days of rock, bands have upped sticks and retreated to an idyllic bolt-hole in the woods to escape the rat race of fame and reconnect with their muse (usually helped along by some home-grown herb). Led Zeppelin decamped to Bron-Yr-Aur, in Wales, to write songs for their acoustic-driven third album, and set up studios in Headley Grange in Hampshire to record their runic-titled fourth album, which featured the ultimate ode to pastoral paradise, Stairway to Heaven . Traffic holed up… Full Story »

Senior Life 101 with Bill Sha...
docs.google.com via @bookjewel &bull YesterdayThrust of the Course: Much has been written and debated about Shakespeare's place in the literary canon. We will be researching and talking about that a bit. More importantly, we'll be operating under the assumption that what Shakespeare wrote centuries ago can be applied to contemporary situations and issues. Working under that assumption, we'll be reading the plays and commentary and then seeing what, if anything, they reveal… Full Story »

Yesterday, I trekked into Manhattan to check out an invite from Canon. The subject was their once-every-five-years Imaging Expo, and the venue was the Jacob Javits Center. Honestly, I didn't expect much. I make numerous trips into Manhattan on a regular basis for this and that press event, product launch, tabletop show, and special announcement. Most of those take up a small ballroom at most, or a… Full Story »

Canon Introduces Small Pro-Level XF100 And XF105 Camcorders
Hot Hardware &bull Yesterday
Generally there has been one major problem with professional cameras and camcorders: they were huge. If you wanted mega performance, you had to deal with a mega huge body. But thanks to innovations at the smallest levels of technology, that's beginning to change. DSLR-like image quality is slowly coming to smaller Micro Four Thirds cameras, and now Canon is offering professional-level video capture quality in some of their smallest camcorders yet. The new XF105 and XF100 are the company's smallest pro camcorders, with both utilizing the XF codec in the XF305 and XF300. If you aren't familiar with that, it's… Full Story »

Canon's Multipurpose Concept Camera Shoots 4K Video
Photography Blog &bull Yesterday
At Canon EXPO 2010 New York, Canon has showcased a range of future technologies including a working prototype for a multipurpose digital camera that supports both video and still image capture with ultra-high definition 4K resolution. Given that Canon's new prototype has a 2/3", 8-megapixel CMOS sensor, we assume it shoots one version of Digital Cinema 4K, as both Full Aperture 4K and Academy 4K require more than 8 million pixels. The camera shoots video at 60 frames per second, and comes equipped with a large 4K LCD screen. Speaking of which, Canon is also exhibiting LCD panels with up… Full Story »
